Co-op Mode Guide

Choose your own hero and follow the host into a zone. Set up a lobby for 1 to 5 players, join by code, revive fallen teammates, and troubleshoot your first co-op run.

Match your game versions first. This guide covers v0.114.2. The host and guests need the same game version. If an older copy reports “a different version of the game”, update before grouping up.

How to create a lobby as the host

The game calls a room a “lobby”. The player who creates it is the host and chooses the zone and starts the run.

  1. Open the game and choose your hero and zone. For a first co-op run, we suggest Elwynn Forest so you can learn movement and reviving together.
  2. Select “Play with friends”. Open the lobby creation option in the “Co-op” interface.
  3. Enter a lobby name. The description is optional. Fill in “Password (optional)” if you want guests to enter a password.
  4. Choose public or private. “Public: in the list” helps other players find you; “Private: by code only” suits a group of friends.
  5. Set “Max players”. Choose 1 to 5 players, including yourself. Choose 2 for you and one friend.
  6. Create the lobby and share its code with your friends. Share the password too if you set one. Wait until everyone appears in the party before entering the zone.

Visibility controls how people find the lobby; a password controls who can join. For a group of friends, choose a private lobby and add a password if needed.

Choosing 1 to 5 players: the host takes one slot

v0.114.2 adds “Max players”. This setting limits actual admission. Once the selected capacity is reached, another player will see “the party is full”.

Max playersGuest slotsGroup size
10 guestsHost only; no friend can join
21 guestYou and one friend
32 guestsThree players
43 guestsFour players
54 guestsFive players, the current upper limit

Check the selected value when creating the lobby. If your friend cannot join a two-person group, ask the host to check that the limit is at least 2. For more slots, create a new lobby with a higher limit and share its new code.

How friends join a lobby

Join using a lobby code

  1. Choose your hero and open “Play with friends”.
  2. Select “Join by code” and enter the host’s “Lobby code”.
  3. Enter the password if required. The lobby code and password are separate pieces of information.
  4. Check that you appear in the party, then wait for the host to enter the zone.

Join from the public list

Browse the public lobbies for your version under “Lobbies” and select one to join. Private lobbies require a code, and password-protected lobbies also require a password. If your friend’s room is missing from the list, check whether it is private.

Use the new lobby code after the host recreates a room. The old code does not invite you into the new lobby.

Who chooses a hero, and who starts the run?

ActionWho handles it
Choose a heroEach player chooses a hero in their own picker
Choose a zoneThe host chooses; guests enter that zone with the host
Start the runOnce everyone has joined, the host closes the co-op window and enters the zone
See “Waiting for the host”Guests keep the game open and wait for the host to act

If you see “You haven’t unlocked … with this class yet”, check the selected class’s zone progress. For a first co-op run, choose a starting zone that everyone has unlocked to avoid setup problems.

Start with a class and build you know. Use the class guide and talent builds for ideas; there is not enough evidence yet to recommend a fixed best co-op lineup.

Stand near a fallen teammate to revive them

A downed player sees “You are down: a friend must stand next to you.” An eligible teammate who can still act must stand nearby for revive progress to build.

  • Keep helping for about 6 seconds. Stay beside the downed teammate and watch the progress.
  • Progress falls when you move away. Without an eligible helper nearby, it gradually drops to zero.
  • Extra helpers do not speed it up. More teammates standing nearby do not multiply revive progress.
  • The revived player returns with half their maximum health. Move to safety after getting up to avoid immediately falling again.

Check the danger around your teammate before approaching. We suggest leaving one player nearby to revive while the others watch for enemies. Avoid putting the whole party in the same dangerous spot to help at once.

At the end of a run: continue or return to the lobby?

When the end-of-run choice appears, the host chooses endless mode or “Back to the lobby”. Guests see a message asking them to wait for that decision.

If you want another run together, agree on what to do with the host. Use “Leave the party” when you are ready to leave. The host should avoid closing the game while teammates are waiting; you can agree on the plan before starting.

Other things to know before grouping up

Do two players need to set the limit to 5?

No. Choosing 2 leaves one slot for the host and one for a friend. Set the limit to your total group size.

Can browser and Windows players join each other?

Cross-platform co-op compatibility is not confirmed. For your first group, we suggest using the same version on the same platform and checking that creating, joining, and starting work.

Are loot, XP, saves, and achievements shared by the party?

XP and gold are shared; each hero buys their own caches. Since 0.114.2, every hero, including downed heroes, gets an independent roll for their class’s gear when a boss dies. Each player keeps their gear, talent XP, achievements and zone unlocks in their own save. See the official update summaries for 0.113.0 / 0.114.2.

Can I reconnect after losing the connection?

Reconnection and host migration rules are not confirmed. Keep the game window open during a run and avoid refreshing it. If the room ends and you want to continue, have the host create a new lobby.
